The mass digitisation vision

The JISC mass digitisation vision is:

To build sustainable and coherent e-resources that meet the needs of and are of benefit to learning, teaching and research in the United Kingdom by:

• Enabling access to and use of collections previously “hidden” to the widest possible audience;

• Facilitating innovative collaboration between the profit and not-for-profit organisations in the UK and abroad;

• Enabling excellence in resource discovery, personalisation and contextualisation (for example, learning and research case studies and exemplars) of new e-resources;

• Promote the adoption of standards-compliant digitisation, metadata, interoperability and digital preservation.

JISC is changing the world of authoritative e-resources through its investment in digitising content from some of the UK’s greatest collections. JISC and other initiatives are likely to generate a step change in learner, teacher and researcher attitudes towards fully searchable authoritative e-resources; many will become available for the first time.More on cellphone rates

The JISC digitisation programme is funded with a £10m grant from the Higher Education Funding Council for England in recognition that a series of large-scale digitisation projects would bring significant benefits to the UK academic sector
